I Could
Fall...
By Laura Adkins
I could fall, you
know,
If I let down my guard.
Dealt you a heart-hand
and played all but one card
then so smugly slipped to you
that one card unseen,
'twas your one card missing --
the heart-ruling queen.
Would you understand?
Would you laugh and move on?
Or would something click
and you'd become the Don Juan
that you never were.
I suppose I'm just dreaming,
those hopes that I harbored
were just idle scheming.
I refuse to be disheartened,
If I could only confess!
Yet my soul is so stingy;
still I long to express
This unspoken affection
I've hid for so long.
I am so enraptured.
See, love is a song,
but only I hear it.
'Tis my unspoken truth:
that love is no mirror
and too short is naive youth.
Is it so wrong
that I so adore you
For all that you are
and all that you do?
I could fall, you know.
It would happen so fast.
I'd close my eyes,
just release my grasp,
and tumble into you.
It wouldn't hurt at all;
like the soft touch of rain
soothes your skin as it falls.
I promise to be gentle,
If only you'd be
there when I fall,
and be willing to catch me.
