Never Not Alone
By Laura Adkins

Never not alone,
this little bird
in her little tree
cheerfully sings
her symphony.
But none will hear
but the falling leaves
and the branches bare.

Would anyone care
if the little bird
stopped singing?
Would anyone mind
if she up and flew
like other birdies do?

Still she clings
to her empty tree,
and still she sings
her symphony
like she doesn't mind,
but she does mind
being never not alone.
