Return For Me
By Laura Adkins
Has my scheduled train
misplaced me?
Did I miss the boarding call?
My hand goes up to shield the sun
as doubts on faith and purpose fall.
Was that westbound my destiny,
or does the whistle's shout signal it near?
my bags are in hand, I am forever ready,
yet until I am on board, still aches my fear.
What if I missed my voyage home,
my once-in-a-lifetime flight?
If I leave now, is my destiny sealed,
or will my train leave tonight?
Forever this platform I shall haunt,
my wait seeming endless as the sea,
as I so tenuously hold to blind faith
that my ship will soon return for me.
